About the Segway

The Segway device was invented in 2001 by the American Jewish inventor Dean Kamen.

Initially Dean Kamen aimed at bettering the lives of the disabled population, however when he realized the potential of the segway, and the way it could affect the lives of the entire population he made a few changes to his model and eventually released an improved model targeting the entire population.

The Segway is very unique compared to other two-wheeled devices, mainly due its simplicity.

Special gyroscopes sensors in the segway translate weight into movement, and a Giro system reads and recalculates the weight of the operator and his/her center of gravity about 100 times per second. This calculation allows the operator to move forward by a simple movement of leaning forward, and backward by leaning back.

Additionally, the segway has no buttons and only natural movements allow its operation.

Segway tours in Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, and Jaffa are in fact the practice of Kamen’s vision!!
